Compaction, formwork and steel are what stop a slab moving later. It is the least visible part of the job and the part that decides how it ages.
Falls and drainage
Water has to go somewhere. Levels and falls are set out before the pour so a driveway sheds water away from the house instead of into it.

Concrete is one of the few trades where the timing is not negotiable once the truck is booked. Dates get held, and you hear about it early if weather moves them.
